Annabelle loved her pacifier. Or as she calls it her "pigger". (That's what we called Samuel's pacifier because he was a pig, and it just stuck with hers too). After she was only allowed to have it in her crib, she would often ask to go down for naps and bed just so she could have it. We took it from her for awhile, but while she was potty training decided it was too much all at once so she was able to have it for a reward when she didn't have any accidents. It totally worked. But, it certainly wasn't encouraging her to get rid of it.
We always told her that when she was ready to give it up she could have a balance bike. She desperately wanted one, but just wasn't quite ready. We didn't see the need to force it. But, seeing Joseph and Samuel constantly with their bikes was the ticket. I asked her one night to start thinking about when she would like to get her bike and that I would ask her soon if she's ready. She seemed interested. So, the next day I asked and she said she was! I ripped her pigger, gave it to her, she stood in her crib, threw it in the trash and that was that. She woke up the next morning, asked to see it in the trash, and then never looked back. Haha.
What a hoot! She's quite thrilled to have entered this new phase of her life. She has her own princess helmet, but I think Samuel's helmet was close by so we let her take a spin with that on. Just in time for our camping trip!

Williamsburg
We took a trip to Williamsburg to visit Papa Bear and Oma.
Sam thinks his stark tooth necklace is a weapon.
They have a long flat driveway and live on a cul-de-sac which was perfect for Joseph to master riding his bike.
There is a fantastic climbing tree in the Colonial area that even Annabelle can climb.

We went into the Colonial Williamsburg area where they had a Native American Dance Show.
Such a great weekend.

Prayers, Praises and Poems
The boys love helping out with the girls. They do school with Annabelle and have now started to enjoy doing Rosemary's night night routine with her. Here Samuel is praying and singing with her before she heads up to bed. Look at the way she is holding onto his finger.
I love it that the boys are reading to her now. I've always been excited for this day to come! It doesn't look this way in the photo, but she loves this story. I had him hold the book down so I could see their faces for the picture, but then she couldn't see the book so she looked away :)

Samuel's Written Prayers
We worship together as a family on Sundays. During the sermon we encourage the kids to illustrate what they hear so we can discuss the sermon during lunch after church. Samuel has shown very little interest in spelling and always draws his responses to the sermon, but this particular Sunday he decided he was going to write a prayer to God. As he pulled out his notebook and shared with us his prayer, I could not help but get choked up. His first written prayer:
"You're beautiful God"
After he realized that this was not how you would spell those words he tried for a long time to spell 'beautiful' without any help and then I ended up telling him. Then he proceeded to write another prayer without help:
"You can do everything"
What started out as an act of worship to his Creator, ended up leaving him feeling frustrated and overwhelmed with spelling. Not at all how I wanted this to go. If only he knew the joy and love God felt as he watched him struggle through writing these prayers.

Rosemary's Dedication
We had a child dedication service at our church on Mother's Day where Rosemary and others were dedicated. I thought it was quite fitting to have the dedication on Mother's Day.
These are the words we had shared during her dedication:
We have encountered people that do not believe we should be welcoming children into this world, as broken as it is. We disagree. As believers, we are called to be salt and light in this dark world. We are convinced that one major way we have been called to influence our world is through the children we raise, who we pray that one day will go out and impact their world for the kingdom of God.
This hymn sums up my thoughts on this topic well:
It was wonderful to have Oma and Papa Bear come to celebrate with us.
These are the words we had shared during her dedication:
Rosemary's first name is a combination of three of her great-grandmothers' names. Also, the herb Rosemary is a symbol of remembrance. We chose Grace as her middle name because we want to continually remember the grace God has shown us specifically over the past couple of years.
Prayers for Rosemary:We are so thankful for the blessing of Rosemary and the joy she brings to our lives, but also are well aware of the challenging task of raising her in a fallen world.
That faith will find root and grow in her heart.
That she will delight herself in God and in His Word.
That she will find her identity in Christ.
That she will desire to do God's will.
That she will wholeheartedly embrace her role as a woman.
That she will be wise and discerning.
That she will be bold and courageous.
That she will store up for herself treasures in heaven.

This hymn sums up my thoughts on this topic well:
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives.
But greater still the calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days because He lives.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
And feel the pride and joy he gives.
But greater still the calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days because He lives.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

Rosie's Got a Hat On
The boys find it extremely hilarious when they put one of their hats on Rosie, and then proceed to chant "Rosie's got a hat one!" She certainly does look cute when she's got one on, but then again when does she not?

Dress Progress
Joseph and I had a date night one night and he wanted to work on the dress. So cute! He just loves to construct things, even if they are dresses! We had a blast. Lots of progress is being made.

Gaining Momentum
Since it had been so long since I've done any sewing, I wanted to do a quick pick-me-up project before I dove head first into the dress. In our living room we have a chair and 2 couches, all dark brown, 2 bookcases and an entertainment center, all dark wood. The walls are light, but everything else is pretty much the same color. It's just very uninteresting to me. So, I tried to add some color and made some bright pillow covers. A nice start, I think.
Now, onto the dress!
Now, onto the dress!

19 Weeks 6 Days
This is exactly the age that Samuel was when Andy came home from his deployment and met Samuel for the first time. Andy wanted a picture of him and Rosemary at this age, too.
Sewing Challenge
For Annabelle's 3rd birthday and for a wedding in late June, I'm making her a dress. It is significantly harder than anything I've ever tried. Darts, lining, collar, you name it, this dress has it! I found this dress pattern and fell in love with it and figured I mind as well tackle all my fears at once and get out of this sewing funk I've found myself in. If I can pull this off, I will be one happy woman.
