Samuel's Written Prayers

We worship together as a family on Sundays. During the sermon we encourage the kids to illustrate what they hear so we can discuss the sermon during lunch after church. Samuel has shown very little interest in spelling and always draws his responses to the sermon, but this particular Sunday he decided he was going to write a prayer to God. As he pulled out his notebook and shared with us his prayer, I could not help but get choked up. His first written prayer:

"You're beautiful God"

After he realized that this was not how you would spell those words he tried for a long time to spell 'beautiful' without any help and then I ended up telling him. Then he proceeded to write another prayer without help:

"You can do everything"

What started out as an act of worship to his Creator, ended up leaving him feeling frustrated and overwhelmed with spelling. Not at all how I wanted this to go. If only he knew the joy and love God felt as he watched him struggle through writing these prayers.
